The countdown to the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 is set to begin as the International Cricket Council unveils the tournament schedule in Cape Town.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is all set to announce the official schedule for the men’s ODI World Cup 2027 in Cape Town. The schedule reveal will kick off the countdown to the upcoming one-day cricketing showpiece that will be hosted across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
In 2023, India hosted the ODI World Cup at various iconic stadiums across the nation. Australia are the defending champions after beating India in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The highly anticipated one-day tournament is all set to take place in 2027, and the hype has been significant after Virat Kohli said that the ODI World Cup would be his last tournament for India.
ODI World Cup dates to be unveiled soon
According to Cricbuzz, the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 will begin on October 2 — on Gandhi Jayanti — next year. Alongside the tournament schedule, the ICC will unveil ticketing details, including theย launch of the World Cup ticket ballot on Thursday.
Notably, fans will not be able to purchase tickets imediately, but can register for the ticket ballot on October 1.
Teams like India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh have qualified for the ODI World Cup as the top-eight-ranked teams in one-day cricket.

2027 World Cup to have a new format
Unlike the 2023 World Cup, the global cricketing showpiece in 2027 will feature a different format to heighten competitiveness and deliver momentous matches throughout the tournament.
The World Cup will be played across three rounds before the semifinals and final, starting with a Super Series where the three lowest-ranked of the 14 qualified teams face off in a round robin competition, with the winner advancing to the next stage.
The second round will feature 30 matches between 12 teams divided into two groups of six, and each team will compete in a round-robin schedule. The top-three teams from each group, along with the next best-placed side across the two groups, will prepare a field of seven teams for the next round.
The Super 7 stage will feature 21 matches in a round-robin format, and top-four teams will advance to the knockouts. In the semi-finals, the table-toppers face the fourth-placed team, while the second and third-placed sides will meet in the other semifinal.
The winners of both semifinals will lock horns in the final for the coveted ODI World Cup title.
