Central Zone clinch first Duleep Trophy title in 11 years after resilient performance against South Zone


Central Zone registered a brilliant win against South Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 final, aiming to chase down a target of 65 runs in the second innings, Central Zone managed to register a six-wicket victory.

Central Zone put in a brilliant performance against South Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 final. The two sides locked horns at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, Bengaluru, from September 11, with the game culminating on September 15.ย 

Led by Rajat Patidar, Central Zone clinched their 7th Duleep Trophy title and their first in 11 years. The side had a target of 65 runs to chase down in the second innings, and despite having some trouble, losing four wickets in the run chase, Central Zone crossed the finish line and registered a six-wicket victory.

The game saw South Zone kicking off the clash, coming in to bat first in the first innings. The side was completely bamboozled by Central Zoneโ€™s bowling attack as they were bundled out for 149 runs, with Saransh Jain taking five wickets and Kumar Kartikeya taking four for the side in the first innings.ย 

Coming out to bat, Central Zone put in a brilliant show; Rajat Patidar and Yash Rathodโ€™s centuries helped the side post a total of 511 runs, maintaining a massive lead against their opponents.ย As the second innings arrived, South Zone had to improve, and they did just that; C Andre Siddarth and Ankit Sharmaโ€™s late knocks helped the side post 426 runs on the board, giving Central Zone a target of 65 runs to chase down.ย 

Central Zone complete run chase despite early scares

Aiming to chase down the target, Central Zone opened their innings with Danish Malewar departing early on a score of five runs. Shubham Sharma and Saransh Jain scored eight and four runs on the board, respectively, as well.ย 

Losing early wickets, Akshay Wadkarโ€™s 19* runs and Yash Rathod adding 13* on the board helped Central Zone to a six-wicket victory.ย
