The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday issued a formal clarification regarding its earlier announcement of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The statement, released by the office of National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, addressed an error in the previously circulated list of party nominees.

According to the clarification, the name mentioned at Serial No. 1 in the earlier communication as Ghulam Mohammad Mir was incorrect. The party has officially corrected the name to Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir, who will now be the BJPโ€™s candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat. The correction came after a round of internal consultations within the party leadership.

Party sources said the decision to rectify the error was taken promptly to ensure full transparency and to avoid any confusion ahead of the crucial elections. They added that the BJP remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of communication and organizational discipline.

The updated candidate list has already been shared with the Election Commission of India and relevant authorities. The BJPโ€™s Jammu and Kashmir president Sat Pal Sharma was among the candidates the party announced on Sunday for three of the four vacant Rajya Sabha seats from J&K. The election to the seats will be held on October 24.Sharma will contest one of the seats vacated by Ghulam Nabi Azad and Nazir Ahmed Laway in 2021. The other BJP candidates are Dr Ali Mohammad Mir and Rakesh Mahajan, who will contest the Rajya Sabha vacancies that opened up after the terms of Mir Mohammad Fayaz and Shamsher Singh Manhas expired.
