All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. He suffered a rib injury in the opening ODI of the series and was in tremendous pain in Vadodara, which forced the spinner to walk back to the pavilion after just a five-over spell. He returned back to bat at number eight and won the game for India, but soon after that, it was confirmed that the cricketer wouldnโt be able to continue for the remainder of the season.ย
Ayush Badoni has been called up as his replacement but the youngster didnโt feature in the playing XI. Nitish Kumar Reddy was called up for the role as he can fulfill the Hardik Pandya role in the middle.ย
New Zealand win toss, elect to field
New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell has won the toss and elected to field first in the second ODI at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. On the other hand, Shubman Gill was happy batting first, as he explained thatโs exactly what he wanted, given that there was no dew last night when India were practising.
โWe would have batted first. Yesterday there was no dew. It might get a bit slower. I was feeling very confident when I was batting out there, very happy to always contribute. Hopefully it’s a big one today,โ Gill said after the toss.
New Zealand, on the other hand, made one change as Jayden Lennox has been handed his debut cap as he replaced Adithya Ashok.
