US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will travel to China in April to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, with a return visit to the United States expected later this year. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump shared details of the planned engagements but did not specify exact dates for the trip.

Our relationship with China is very good right now.โ In a recent interview with NBC Newsโ Tom Llamas, Trump again spoke about the upcoming visit. โIโm gonna be going there in April then heโs coming here toward the end of the year,โ Trump said.
Focus on strong bilateral ties
During the same interview, which was recorded on February 4, Trump underlined the importance of maintaining close ties between the two global powers.ย โHeโs coming to the White House, toward the end of the year. We have a very good relationship. And, you know, itโs important that I have a good relationship and for him, that he has a good relationship with me. We have to have a good these are the two most powerful countries in the world and we have a very good relationship.โ
Trump-Xi 90-minute phone callย
Trump and Xi also held a 90-minute phone conversation on February 4. According to Trump, the discussion was largely centered on trade matters and did not cover other international issues such as Iran or Ukraine. He later wrote on Truth Social that the call โresulted in a very positive conclusion for both Countries.โ
In his post, Trump mentioned that Xi had invited him and the First Lady to visit China, and that he had extended a similar invitation in return.ย โDuring the conversation, President Xi graciously invited the First Lady and me to visit China, and I reciprocated. As Presidents of two Great Nations, this is something that we both look forward to doing.โ
Chinese state media outlet Xinhua News Agency reported that Xi stressed the importance of stable China-US relations during the call.ย According to a statement from Chinaโs Foreign Ministry, Xi called on both countries to work towards โwin-win resultsโ based on mutual respect and urged the US to roll back measures that China views as negative.
