In what appears to be an attempt to fortify its ranks for the impending Kerala Legislative Assembly polls, the Congress has named its veteran politician Ramesh Chennithala as the Chairman of its election campaign committee, while Shashi Tharoor, the partyโs MP, has been named its Co-Chairman.

Apparently following a series of meetings with party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, Shashiโs elevation seems to have marked a truce between Gandhi and Shashi, who had been up in arms over fears of being passed over by state-level leaders. The apparent resolution of the crisis seems to have augured well for Shashi, who has just introduced the Budget debate in Parliament.

Along with the campaign panel, the Congress has established a manifesto committee, headed by MP Benny Behanan, with Kodikkunnil Suresh as co-chairman of the committee. The Congress campaign committee has some of the young MPs and leaders, including Shafi Parambil as convenor, Hibi Eden, and Ramya Haridas, in the line-up of the Congress’s election strategy. The polls are likely to be held in April or May, and the Congress plans to take over the ruling Left Democratic Front.
