Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the Peopleโ€™s Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday strongly criticised the United States over the killing of Iranโ€™s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while also slamming Muslim nations for what she described as their deafening silence on the issue.

ย

In a post on X, Mehbooba Mufti called the day a โ€œdeeply tragic and shameful point in history”, alleging that Israel and the US were โ€œboastingโ€ about the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

ย

She expressed shock at what she called the โ€œexplicit and implicit supportโ€ from Muslim countries and accused them of prioritising โ€œconvenience and expedience over conscience.โ€

ย

Similar views were expressed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday, who voiced deep sorrow over the killing of Khamenei in Israeli and American strikes. He held the United States and Israel responsible for what he termed a โ€œbrutal killingโ€ that has sent shockwaves across the Muslim world.

ย

ย

In a statement, he said, โ€œThe killing of innocent school children and the leadership of a sovereign country are despicable and must be condemned by all sections of society. Deeply saddened and outraged at the brutal killing of Iranโ€™s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, by the US and Israel that has shaken the Muslim world.โ€

ย

โ€œIn this hour of immense sorrow, our hearts beat with the resilient people of Iran. May Allah grant strength to the oppressed, elevate the martyrs, and bring swift justice to those responsible for this.โ€

ย

Meanwhile, the Chief Ministerโ€™s Office (CMO), while assuring assistance to Kashmiri students stuck in Iran, said, โ€œHe (CM) urged people to maintain peace and communal harmony in view of the current developments in Iran.โ€
