The wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, died on Monday, days after she was injured in the joint strike by the United States (US) and Israel in Tehran, according to reports by Iranian media.ย
The 79-year-old, who was born in Iran’s Mashhad and was the sister of former Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) deputy director Hassan Khojaste Bagherzadeh, was present with Khamenei at his compound in Tehran when the strike was conducted by the US and Israel.ย
The two got married in 1964. They had six children: four sons (Mostafa, Mojtaba, Masoud, and Meysam) and two daughters (Hoda and Boshra).ย
Iran vows revenge
Khamenei’s death has massively escalated the situation in the Middle, with Iran vowing to avenge the death of its Supreme Leader. On Sunday, President President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran’s military “will forcefully crush the enemy’s bases”, while describing Khamenei’s death as “declaration of war against the Muslims”.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers it its legitimate duty and right to avenge the perpetrators and masterminds of this historic crime,” the Iranian president said in an address that televised at the national TV.ย
Iran has also targeted multiple US bases in the Gulf. It also claimed on Sunday that US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was attacked by four of its ballistic missiles. However, the US Central Command has rejected the claims.ย
Iran is also targeted Israel. On Monday, it claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has also been targeted, but Tel Aviv has rejected it, calling it a lie.ย ย
Over 500 killed in Iran
According to Iranian Red Crescent Society, at least 555 Irani people have lost their lives since the beginning of the conflict. It further stated that more than 130 cities were attacked in Iran. The US and Israel have also targeted Iranian missile sites and bombed its navy, while claiming that multiple of its warships have been destroyed.ย
