National Award-winning actor Konkona Sensharma has admitted that while she is thriving in the world of streaming, she misses the pull of the big screenโ€”largely because theatrical offers have become a rarity for her lately.

At 46, the ‘Wake Up Sid’ and ‘Omkara’ star has become a staple of digital platforms, earning rave reviews for her work in ‘Mumbai Diaries’, ‘Killer Soup’, and the anthology ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’. However, in a recent interview, she reflected on the shift in the industry, noting that her current diet of scripts consists almost entirely of web series. “Thank God Iโ€™m so happy to be part of wonderful series working with wonderful people,” she said, “but it is true that very few offers come for theatrical releases nowadays.”

Sensharma, who made her mark with off-beat cinema such as ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’ and ‘Page 3’, expressed concern over the “unfortunate reality” that economic factors now dictate what reaches the cinema. She argued that the current trend prioritises high-octane action and war epics over more intimate, character-driven dramas. “Why should we only watch epic action films?” she asked, advocating for a healthier cinematic ecosystem where family dramas and comedies led by women have a place in the multiplex.

However, the actress, despite her desire to return to stage performances, still remains the queen of small screen entertainment. The actressโ€™s latest venture is the Netflix original movie โ€˜Accusedโ€™, which was released on February 27, 2026. In this movie, the actress is seen playing the role of Dr. Geetika Sen, a famous surgeon living in London and involved in a #MeToo scandal. The movie, which also stars Pratibha Ranta of โ€˜Laapataa Ladiesโ€™ fame, is already making waves as it premiered at number two on the Netflix charts.
