Sloganeering against LPG price hike in Lok Sabha

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Wednesday following vociferous protests by opposition members over various issues, including the hike in LPG prices. As soon as the House met for the day, opposition members raised various issues and shouted slogans. Several of them took to sloganeering in the Well of the House. The session has now resumed.ย

When it was Congress member Kumari Selja’s turn to ask a question, she just remarked that the government should first reduce the LPG price.

Responding to queries, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took a swipe at the opposition members, saying that they seemed uninterested in the nation’s progress.

Dilip Saika, who was in the Chair, urged the protesting members to be seated and told them that they would get opportunities to raise issues after the Question Hour.

Message will go out that the government wants to run the House, but the opposition does not want it to function, Saika said as he repeatedly requested the members to go back to their seats.

However, the protests continued, forcing the Chair to adjourn the proceedings till 12 noon.

During the Question Hour on Wednesday, six questions and supplementaries related to the information technology and railway ministries were taken up.

The government and the opposition are at loggerheads over various issues, and the House has been witnessing disruptions during the Budget session, the second phase of which started on Monday.
