Amanda Peet has revealed a heartbreaking health update!

ย

The actress is dealing with breast cancer, the diagnosis of which came last fall โ€œamid an already difficult timeโ€.

ย

โ€œFor many years, Iโ€™ve been told that I have โ€˜denseโ€™ and โ€˜busyโ€™ breastsโ€”not as a compliment but as a warning that they require extra monitoring,โ€ the actress wrote in a newspaper essay published on Saturday.

ย

She added, โ€œI had been seeing a breast surgeon every six months for checkups. The Friday before Labor Day, I went for what I thought would be a routine scan.โ€

ย

After a doctor โ€œdidnโ€™t like the way something lookedโ€ on an ultrasound, the โ€œYour Friends and Neighborsโ€ star had a biopsy.

ย

โ€œAfter the procedure, she said that she would walk the sample over to Cedars-Sinai and hand-deliver it to Pathology. Thatโ€™s when I knew,โ€ Peet explained, noting that results were shared with her the next day.

ย

โ€œThe tumour โ€˜appearedโ€™ to be small, but I would need an MRI after the holiday weekend to determine โ€˜the extent of disease,’โ€ Peet went on.

To make matters even more difficult, her โ€œlong divorcedโ€ parents were in hospice โ€œon opposite coasts,โ€ she wrote.

ย

The โ€œSaving Silvermanโ€ actress, who is married to David Benioff since 2006 and has three children, later lost both her parents within a short period of time.

ย

Peet later learned that her stage I diagnosis was โ€œhormone-receptor-positiveโ€ and โ€œHER2-negativeโ€ upon arriving back in Los Angeles.

ย

Her doctor then told her that โ€œthe radiologist would check my lymph nodes, as well as โ€˜the left side for any surprise findings and call with the results within a week. It was dawning on me that cancer diagnoses come in a slow drip.โ€

ย

Another benign mass was located in her breast, for which she had to undergo a lumpectomy and radiation.
