Verushka Singh โ who made history just four months ago as the first Indian-origin woman to be crowned Mrs South Africa in the pageantโs 24-year run โ has unexpectedly stepped down from her role. The 39-year-old chemical engineer and climate change consultant cited “personal and family reasons” for her departure, a move that has surprised followers of the competition given the significant breakthrough her November 2025 victory represented for the countryโs Indian community.

In a graceful parting statement, Singh emphasised that the decision was entirely her own and made with the best interests of her family at heart. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served on this platform,” she noted, expressing nothing but appreciation for the organisation. Despite the short duration of her reign, Singh managed to make a distinct mark by bridging the gap between corporate sustainability and the glamour of the pageant world. With the respect to her foundation, Climate Axis, she was a vocal advocate for environmental resilience, particularly highlighting how climate disasters disproportionately impact women and children in vulnerable areas.

The Mrs South Africa organisation has been swift in offering their total support. In a statement, CEO Joani Jacobs complimented Singhโs professionalism and what she had accomplished in a short space of time, stating that they respect her decision to focus more on her personal life at this โseason of her life.โ Singhโs reign has also been defined by her efforts to dispel stereotypes that are often associated with ageism and motherhood. She has often sought to present the pageant as a leadership development opportunity rather than a beauty contest.

With Singhโs departure, the crown has officially passed to the First Princess, Carika Bebb, who has now assumed the title of Mrs South Africa 2026. The organisation confirmed that all scheduled charity initiatives, including their long-standing partnership with the Cancer Association of South Africa and advocacy against human trafficking, will proceed as planned under Bebbโs leadership. While Singhโs history-making term was brief, her focus on making “measurable sustainability projects” accessible within the home remains a significant part of her legacy on the platform.
