Iran War LIVE Updates: Oil rises, Asian stocks fall following Trump’s White House address

New Delhi:

US President Donald Trump delivered a national address as the conflict with Iran continued to intensify as it has entered the second month. He cautioned the Iranian leadership with fresh warnings, applauded American forces for their role in ‘Operation Epic Fury’ and outlined his expectations on when the fighting could draw to a close. His remarks came at a time when disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz have persisted, with the vital oil route remaining largely inaccessible since the war began on February 28. Global crude prices have climbed steadily in recent weeks, fuelling market volatility and sparking concerns over the broader impact on economic growth.

Meanwhile, oil rose more than 4 per cent and Asian stocks fell after US President Donald Trump said in his first national address since the Iran war began that the US will keep hitting Iran very hard. Trump also said the United States will “finish the job” in Iran and that military operations could wrap up soon. Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 was down 1.4 per cent to 53,004.81 in early Asia trading on Thursday. South Korea’s Kospi lost 3.4 per cent to 5,292.36. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.8 per cent to 25,082.59.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump claimed Iran’s president wanted a ceasefire, ahead of his speech to the American people. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Trump’s remarks were “false and baseless.”ย
