Kolkata Knight Riders remained winless after two outings as they went down meekly to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the sixth match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. It was their first home game of the season, but the team didn’t step up, going down by 65 runs to SRH, who registered their first win of IPL 2026. With this loss, KKR have slipped to ninth place in the points table while SRH have jumped to sixth place.
It was a near-perfect game for the Orange Army, as the only thing that didn’t go well for them was the toss. Their opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma added 82 runs in just 5.4 overs and even though they collapsed from 111/2 to 118/4 in the space of six deliveries, SRH never seemed to have lost the plot.
Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy must be credited for the recovery as they rebuilt the innings in the second half with an 82-run stand and launched the attack in the death over, to help the team post 226 runs on the board in their 20 overs.
KKR were then no match to SRH despite a strong start, thanks to Finn Allen, who scored 25 runs in the opening over off David Payne. But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it was only a half-century from Angkrish Raghuvanshi that kept them in the game. Rinku Singh had come out to bat at the end of the powerplay but he botched another opportunity to go big and got out on 35.
CSK remain rooted to bottom of points table
As far as the points table is concerned, Rajasthan Royals are at the top of the table, thanks to their huge win over Chennai Super Kings in their opening game of the season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings follow them, having won their respective opening games of the season.
Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are in seventh and eighth places, respectively, while CSK remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
