At least two suspects linked to the Punjab BJP office blast have been identified by the Chandigarh police, officials said on Friday.
According to a senior police official, โfurther investigations are on,โ adding that efforts are underway to nab the accused.
ย
The explosion occurred around 5 pm on Wednesday when a suspected crude explosive device was hurled near the BJP office. No casualties were reported from the incident.
ย
Forensic officials and the bomb detection squad were seen collecting evidence to determine the nature, material and intensity of the explosives used in the attack.
ย
Officials said that on Friday morning the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police raided the houses of two suspects in Rattangarh village in the Morinda area of Ropar district.
ย
Both individuals are believed to have direct involvement in the blast that took place on Wednesday evening.
ย
The family member of one of the accused, Amanpreet Singh, was arrested, while the main accused, Gurtej Singh, remains at large.
The raids were launched to apprehend Gurtej, a Rapido bike rider who is suspected to be the main perpetrator in the blast.
ย
According to sources, the police conducted the raids after they suspected Gurtejโs involvement in the incident.
ย
However, the family of Amanpreet Singh, especially his wife, claimed that her husband had no connection with Gurtej Singh.
ย
Furthermore, Gurtejโs mother said that the family has not been in contact with him for the past 3-4 years and that they were being harassed unnecessarily. She said she came to know about the case from neighbours.
ย
โThe police should arrest him if he has done anything wrong, but other family members should not be harassed,โ she said.
