Iran names 8 bridges in Gulf on hit list after its biggest bridge destroyed by US

Tehran:

Iran has released a list of 8 major bridges across the Middle East, hinting at a tit for tat response after a US Israeli attack on key infrastructure in the northern city of Karaj.

Publishing what it described as a potential hit list, Iranโ€™s semi official Fars News Agency said several prominent bridges in Gulf countries and Jordan could be targeted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The move follows 2 strikes on Iranโ€™s tallest B1 bridge on Thursday.

According to the report, the list includes the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Sea Bridge in Kuwait, the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Al Maqta Bridge and Sheikh Khalifa Bridge in the UAE, the King Fahd Causeway linking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and the King Hussein Bridge, Damia Bridge and Abdoun Bridge in Jordan.

Iranโ€™s tallest bridge hit in strikes

US Israeli strikes on Thursday partially destroyed what is described as the tallest bridge in the Middle East, leaving several people injured. The attack came after US President Donald Trump warned of bombing Iran โ€œback to the Stone Ageโ€.

The 136 metre high B1 bridge, still under construction, was meant to connect Tehran with the western city of Karaj.

Ghodratollah Seif, deputy governor of Alborz province where the bridge is located, said 8 people were killed and 95 injured in the strike, according to state television and Fars.

Videos circulating on social media showed large sections of the bridge collapsing after the attack. Trump also shared footage showing smoke rising from the structure, located about 35 kilometres southwest of Tehran, and warned of further destruction unless Iran agrees to end the 5 week conflict.

โ€œThe biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again, much more to follow. It is time for Iran to make a deal before it is too late, and there is nothing left of what still could become a great country,โ€ Trump said.
