The Haryana Congress Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) is set to prepare a report and convey its decision to the party high command regarding the alleged cross-voting by five Congress MLAs in last monthโs Rajya Sabha elections.
ย
The committee, chaired by senior leader Dharampal Malik, met at the Haryana Congress office on Friday evening.
ย
The five MLAs are accused of cross-voting in favour of the BJP-backed independent candidate. Satish Nandal has been issued a show-cause notice for โanti-party activitiesโ by deliberately not supporting the Congress official candidate.
ย
Polling for the two Rajya Sabha seats in Haryana was held on March 16. The party has named five legislators for defying the whip: Jarnail Singh, Renu Bala, Shalli Chaudhary, Mohammad Illyas and Mohammad Israil.
ย
Three of the five MLAs โ Chaudhary, Bala and Singh โ have denied the allegations, claiming their names were wrongly dragged into the controversy and that they voted for the party candidate.
ย
Only two of the accused, Bala and Jarnail Singh, replied to the show-cause notice, DAC chairman Malik said after the meeting.
โThey requested a personal hearing. They came; we listened to whatever they had to say,โ he added.
ย
The Congress DAC will now finalise its report and submit its recommendations on the future of the legislators to the high command.
ย
On the remaining two MLAs who did not reply to the notice, Malik said, โIt means they have accepted the allegations against them.โ
