Tollywood calls for indefinite strike after actor’s death

It is a sad day in the world of Tollywood because actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee lost his life due to a tragic accident that occurred on March 29. This was a fatal incident because he lost his life while shooting an episode of the TV serial titled ‘Bholebaba Paar Karega’. Due to the death of Rahul, it has been decided by the industry to conduct an indefinite strike starting from April 7.

The West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum made a press release after an urgent meeting held by personalities in the film industry, such as Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, and Shantilal Mukherjee, along with some directors and producers. The forum showed great concern about the situation, stating that though there was huge loss, the reason behind the tragic incident is not known yet. They have vowed that artists and technicians will cease work from 7 am on Tuesday until concrete steps are taken to ensure the security of crews during both indoor and outdoor shoots.

The incident occurred in Digha, where Rahul was reportedly performing a dance sequence in knee-deep water with co-actor Sweta Mishra. Officials stated that the pair allegedly slipped into a submerged ditch. While both were rushed to a local hospital, Rahul could not be saved.

The actor’s wife, Priyanka Sarkar, who has since filed a police complaint against the producers, issued a heartbreaking plea for privacy. Despite her loss, Priyanka joined a massive protest march that saw the industry’s elite — including Aparna Sen, Srijit Mukherjee, and Anjan Dutt — walk from Technicians’ Studio to Radha Studio carrying placards that simply read ‘Justice for Rahul’.

Rahul Arunoday Banerjee was quite popular in the state of West Bengal because he became famous overnight following his debut in the hit film of 2008, ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’. His career had many hits, which included popular movies such as ‘Jackpot’ and ‘Love Circus’, as well as some TV serials such as ‘Geeta LLB’ and ‘Desher Maati’. The strike commences as the industry halts itself out of grief for their fellow actor and demands that no more artists should be required to make such a sacrifice.
