Actor Jaideep Ahlawat is not interested in taking up one-dimensional roles.

ย

The star of โ€œPaatal Lokโ€ and โ€œJaane Jaanโ€ says he actively avoids the clichรฉs of typical heroes and villains, preferring to inject depth even into “vanilla” characters.

ย

For Ahlawat, a role is only compelling if it offers the same level of grit and complexity that defined his acclaimed portrayal of Shahid Khan in โ€œGangs of Wasseypurโ€ and the ruthless Rukma in โ€œThe Family Man 3โ€.

โ€œIโ€™ve not got to play a vanilla character yet. I feel when the character has more layers than it becomes much more interesting to essay that role, as compared to single dimensional character. So, if there arenโ€™t any layers, I try to put elements or layers in a character to make it look believable as an actor,โ€ the actor said in an interview on the side-lines of the launch event of journalist-turned-author Hussain Zaidiโ€™s latest book, โ€œMafia Queens of Indiaโ€.

The 46-year-old actor said his other aim is to make his characters look believable.

ย

โ€œThe emotion with which the character is written must be conveyed so that the story makes sense; otherwise, it becomes flat. As an actor, I feel the more layering in a character, be it positive or negative character, then it will be fun to play such a part,โ€ he said.

Ahlawat was most recently seen in a cameo in director Sudip Sharma’s “Kohrra 2”.
