Emma Stone, Chris Pine to star in ‘The Catch’

Actors Emma Stone and Chris Pine will headline Universal Pictures’ upcoming romantic comedy “The Catch”. The film is set to release on May 21, 2027.

Directed by Dave McCary, the project is termed a two-hander romantic comedy, even though the exact storyline is currently being kept under wraps.

This news confirms previous rumours of Pine joining the cast alongside Stone. The film’s production has picked up significant speed since both the actors have officially signed on.

The original script for “The Catch” was written by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, while the latest version features revisions by Travis Helwig and Jen Statsky, known for “Hacks”.

According to reports, Stone had been considering multiple projects for the fall but shifted her focus after reviewing the latest script draft. Once Pine joined the cast, the film was greenlit for production later this year.

Production duties are being handled by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through 21 Laps, alongside Michael H. Weber.

Stone is also producing via her Fruit Tree banner, alongside McCary and Ali Herting. The studio secured the project in 2024 and subsequently signed Fruit Tree to a first-look deal, further strengthening its collaboration with Stone and her team. Robin Fisichella will serve as executive producer.
