TMC forms fact-finding teams for district outreach

Amid allegations of post-poll violence and displacement of party workers, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has constituted three โ€œfact-finding teamsโ€ to visit affected families across districts in West Bengal.

ย

The move comes in the wake of claims from within sections of the political spectrum that several TMC workers and supporters have been forced to flee their homes following the recent change in power. Critics have also pointed to the relative absence of senior leadership on the ground during the initial phase of the crisis.

ย

In response, the party on Friday announced that the three teams would begin visiting districts from Saturday to assess the situation and extend support to families of workers who were allegedly killed or displaced. The teams are expected to meet victimsโ€™ families and gather firsthand accounts of the incidents.

ย

One of the teams comprises Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, Lok Sabha MPs Prasun Banerjee and Sajda Ahmed, along with Tanmoy Ghosh, an Assembly candidate from Sreerampur. Another group includes Rajya Sabha MPs Dola Sen and Md. Nadimul Haque, Lok Sabha MP Sharmila Sarkar, and former student leader Sushobhan Roy. The third team features Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mondal, Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam, tribal leader Birbaha Hansda, along with Shirshanya Banerjee and academic Syed Tanveer Nasreen.

ย

According to party sources, the initiative is aimed at standing in solidarity with affected workers and assessing the ground reality following the elections. Political observers note that the development comes at a time when the partyโ€™s organisational structure is under strain in several regions.

ย

The issue of alleged violence and displacement had also surfaced during proceedings before the Calcutta High Court earlier this week, where concerns regarding the safety and security of party workers were raised.

ย

Analysts suggest that the formation of these teams reflects an attempt by the party leadership, led by Mamata Banerjee, to regain organisational momentum and address concerns at the grassroots level. The visits are expected to play a key role in shaping the partyโ€™s response strategy in the coming days.
