A biographical film based on the life and career of global music icon Shania Twain is reportedly in development. Titled โShaniaโ, the project will chronicle the singerโs remarkable journey from her humble beginnings in Canada to becoming one of the most successful and influential artists in country music history.

The film will be written and directed by Leah M. McKendrick. Twain is also set to be involved behind the scenes as a producer alongside Amie Karp. McKendrick, known for directing Scrambled and the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy Voicemails for Isabelle, expressed her enthusiasm for the project in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
โLong before I was making movies, I was shooting Shania music videos in my bedroom,โ she wrote. โThis wild-hearted force of a woman means so much to meโand the world. It is a surreal dream come true to get to bring her trailblazing, gut-punching, awe-inspiring story to the screen (and ride horses and eat pasta in the process!) I am honoured. I am humbled. I am ready. Letโs go, girls.โ

While plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to explore Twainโs rise from Windsor, Ontario, to international fame during the 1990s, when she became one of country musicโs biggest stars.ย Over the course of her career, Twain has produced a string of chart-topping hits, including โMan! I Feel Like a Woman!โ, โThat Donโt Impress Me Much, Youโre Still the One, Up!โ and โIโm Gonna Getcha Good!โ.
Meanwhile, the singer is gearing up for the release of her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, which is set to arrive next month. In an earlier interview, Twain revealed that the album draws heavily from her childhood experiences and the environment in which she was raised.
โIโm turning 60 and I feel good and Iโve got to celebrate that. Iโm grateful to have made it this far,โ she said. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the new record, Twain explained that she wanted to share a more personal side of her story with fans. โWho makes you who you become, basically? I had never shared that with the fans before,โ she added.
The singer also spoke about revisiting her past through music, describing the process as both meaningful and empowering. โIt was really fun to revisit the past with a really great and positive outlook,โ Twain said. โItโs made me who I am. I wouldnโt trade it for anything because Iโm actually quite happy with where I am and who I am.โย

โLittle Miss Twainโ, her first album since 2023โs โQueen of Meโ, is scheduled for release on July 24.
