BJP denies Rajya Sabha re-nomination to Ravneet Bittu

Ravneet Singh Bittu is now facing a sudden turn of fortune as the prediction has come true. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided not to re-nominate the Union Minister of State for a fresh Rajya Sabha term. Mann had predicted the same on Wednesday, saying Bittu wonโ€™t make it.

He went on to claim that Bittu โ€œwonโ€™t remain a ministerโ€ either.

BJP is expected to carry out a Union cabinet reshuffle in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen whether this second claim also comes true or not.

The rejection of re-nomination has sent mixed signals on the partyโ€™s strategy towards the Sikhs. As per party sources, the move has sent mixed but contradictory signals on its Sikh outreach in Punjab.

On one hand, a Sikh leader was appointed as the state chief in the form of Kewal Singh Dhillonโ€™s elevation, but on the other hand, Ravneet Bittu was removed from his Rajya Sabha post.

The grandson of former Punjab CM Beant Singh, Bittu, had joined the BJP in 2024 after leaving Congress and was viewed as one of the most important faces of the BJPโ€™s leadership plans for Punjab.

Just months ago, Bittu enjoyed high visibility within the party. He was the only leader from Punjab to accompany PM Narendra Modi during the central teamโ€™s flood relief visit to the state in 2025.

His active role in coordinating relief efforts and distributing assistance had positioned him prominently in the national spotlight.

In a separate but notable chapter of his political career, Bittu had been labelled a โ€œtraitorโ€ by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he switched to the BJP.
