Sensex gains 137 points, Nifty near 24,100 amid strong global cues, IT stocks lag | Markets


Mumbai:

Indian equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, rebounded to start the trading session on a firm note on July 15, 2026, amid positive global cues, with Wall Street and European markets ending firm overnight. While the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 137.82 points or 0.17ย  per cent to start the session at 77,192.76, the Nifty added 33.8 points to open at 24,085.85. In the last trading session, the Sensex closed at 77,054.94 and the Nifty 50 at 24,052.05. Similarly, the broader indices traded in the green in the opening session. While the BSE Midcap Select Index was up by 101.18 points, the BSE Smallcap Select Index gained 58.73 points or 0.67 per cent, to trade in the red at 8,783.76.ย 

From the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finance, Indigo, Asian Paints, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were the gainers, with Bajaj Finance leading the pack by gaining nearly 1.64 per cent in the early trade. On the other hand, TCS, Infosys, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra and Eternal were among the losers, with TCS the top loser, falling over 2.36 per cent. IT stocks are under pressure afterย IBM posted weaker quarterly earnings.

In early trade, market breadth was positive, with 1,669 stocks advancing against 582 stocks declining on the NSE. 128 stocks remained unchanged.ย 

What did Gift Nifty indicate?

Gift Nifty, an early indicator for the Nifty 50, indicated a mildly positive start today as it opened with a gain of 153 points at 24,049.50, compared to the previous close of 24,014.50. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading equities worth Rs 739.69 crore on July 14, 2026. However, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs 2,927.71 crore.ย

Asian shares advanced on Wednesday as softer-than-expected US inflation data eased concerns over further Federal Reserve rate hikes. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up by 831.50 points or 1.23 per cent at 68,575 at the time of writing the report. Similarly, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng zoomed 336.27 points or 1.36 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi traded in the green with a gain of 530.63 points. However, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index was in red with a drop of 3.23 points or 0.08 per cent.ย ย
