Mexican actress and singer Melissa Barrera lost her voice on stage during a show of her Broadway debut production ‘Titanique’ this week and is taking the weekend off to recover and recuperate.
The actress, who essays the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater in the musical parody of 1997 blockbuster ‘Titanic’, announced on Saturday that she “lost her voice”.
“Doing 8 shows a week of a Broadway musical is no joke,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “After being non-stop since March 26 my body finally told me to take a break. I lost my voice after Wednesday’s show and had to call out Thursday. I did vocal rest and went back in for last night’s show,” she wrote.

“I pushed through because I hate missing shows and missing y’all who travel from all over to see us… But it was mortifying and stressful and by the end of the show I couldn’t even sing, there was no voice left. So I’m taking this weekend off to rest and let my voice come back.”
The 36-years-old actor continued, “Gotta listen to our bodies and there is no shame in that, even though it pains me to miss a single second on that beautiful stage. Love y’all. Sorry to miss you. Will also be out Aug 21 and 22 for different reasons. Final TITANIQUE performance Sept 20!”
Barrera had joined the original Broadway cast of the hit musical parody during its March premiere at the St. James Theatre. After it was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the production was extended till September 20.
