Imam-ul-Haq likely to be hit with a two-year suspension over Lord’s Test injury row: Report

Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq has been on thin ice due to the controversy over the injury he suffered during the Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan. The opener could potentially face a ban for up to two years.

Questions arose over Imam’s injury after he did not bat in any of the innings in the second Test match but was seen facing throwdowns on day four. The PAK opener was ruled out of action by the team management due to a calf tear.

Pakistan’s shambolic performance led to an extensive overhaul during the ongoing tour, shaking up the coaching staff and replacing seven players in the squad. The change came after the visiting side lost two straight Tests in the three-match series.

Imam may receive a ban!

According to Geo News, the PCB has confirmed setting up a high-level investigation committee to probe the matter, and Imam could be banned for a couple of years if the inquiry finds him guilty of misconduct.

Imam was accused of faking his calf injury, and Pakistan national selector Aaqib Javed raised concern over the alleged issue, assuring that strict action will be taken against those found guilty. Notably, the PAK opener was also involved in an injury-related controversy during the Pakistan-New Zealand series in March 2025.

The report added that PCB’s investigation was prompted by circumstances surrounding Imam’s injury and his unavailability in the series.

Rizwan also under scrutiny

Apart from Imam, sources have revealed that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan would also face rigid action in the future after PCB raised concerns over the cricketer’s discipline. Both cricketers were among the seven names released from the squad.

The Board is expected to question Rizwan in the coming days, and his position in the near future remains unlikely.

After losing two straight Tests, Pakistan would look to avoid any embarrassment in the third match, starting September 9 at Edgbaston.
