The BCCI has confirmed that Indian cricketers at the 2026 Asian Games will be housed in facilities arranged by the organising committee, rather than the fiveโstar hotels usually provided during overseas tours.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Tuesday that Indian cricketers participating in the 2026 Asian Games would be accommodated in facilities arranged by the organising committee. The hotels, however, are not five-star rated, something which the Indian cricket board provides to the players during away tours.
The Indian cricketers have enjoyed the privilege of residing in five-star lodgings provided by the BCCI during foreign tours. That won’t be the case during the Asian Games because top-ranked hotels in Nagoya are scarce.
Earlier, questions were also raised over the facilities, but the BCCI assured that the players’ accommodation is comfortable enough.
Indian cricketers to not have five-star lodging in Asian Games
Speaking to the media at the Asian Games send-off ceremony of the Indian contingent, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the hotel provided by the organisers is not five-star lavish but is definitely good for their stay.
“Whatever they (organisers) are providing, we are staying there, and we are keeping a watch what kind of accommodation is being given so that our players are comfortable. Definitely, those are not five-star but good accommodation.

They (cricketers) will be going and staying there because otherwise the options were to make them stay in Osaka or Tokyo; that’s far away,” Shukla said.
‘Sending our B team is a complete rumour’
Earlier, multiple reports claimed that the BCCI was not happy with the playing conditions and dressing room at the Asian Games and was considering sending its B-team for their title defence.
Shukla admitted that the ground, wicket and dressing rooms were ‘the big issue’, but the organisers have addressed the problems, and the ACC team was satisfied with the ground.
The BCCI VP also quashed the B-team rumour by saying, “Sending our B team is a complete rumour. Our full contingent is going with the most talented players, and I hope that we’ll definitely win.”
India kicks off its Asian Games campaign on September 28, and the team will depart for Tokyo on September 20 to face Japan in a historic one-off T20 International match on September 22.
