India’s medals tally at Asian Games 2026: Athletes make firm start with four silver, two bronze medals

India kicked off its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, with the multi-discipline event taking place from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The quadrennial sporting event featured a glittering opening ceremony at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya City, which will also host the closing ceremony.

India has fielded a 499-member Indian contingent to build on its best-ever Asian Games performance in 2023 at Hangzhou. The country won an overall 106 medals, finishing fourth in the standings.

Firm start for Indian athletes  at Asian Games 2026

DAY 1

India’s medal-winning spree kicked off in the shooting range after female shooters Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod won silver at the women’s 10m air rifle team event.

The Indian trio put up a combined score of 1898.0, finishing second behind China, who delivered a record-setting score of 1904.2.

Valarivan went on to win silver in the women’s individual 10m air rifle event with a score of 252.4, while Japan’s Hinata Taichi clinched gold after scoring 253.0.

DAY 2

India won three medals on day two, continuing its fine start at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Shooters Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane put up a solid effort to finish behind China, clinching the silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle team.

Rudrankksh went on to win bronze with a score of 230.9, after leading in the early stages of the final of the men’s individual 10m air rifle. Meanwhile, Himanshu overtook Rudrankksh to secure a silver after scoring 231.0.

Suchika Tariyal won a bronze in the traditional 60kg MMA event after losing to Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo in the semifinals. Her defeat was challenged by the Indian camp, but rules and technicalities favoured Teo as the winner.
