India’s wait for a shooting gold at the 2026 Asian Games finally ended as Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet produced a stunning display in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event.
Indian shooting duo Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet won the nation’s second gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Friday at the Aichi Prefectural Shooting Gallery.
India’s shooters began strongly in rifle and skeet events, winning five silver and three bronze medals, but gold remained elusive. They also endured multiple disappointments in the 10m Air Pistol event, with the biggest medal hopes, Manu Bhaker, finishing fifth.
But Suruchi and Kamaljeet paired up to win the first gold in Asiad and second in India’s overall campaign.
Shooters Suruchi and Kamaljeet make history
Suruchi and Kamaljeet delivered a masterclass on the range, producing their finest performance when it mattered most to end India’s shooting gold drought.
The Indian duo decimated their opponents in the final with a remarkable score of 484.6, finishing ahead of second-placed South Korea (478) and Iran (415.8).
Suruchi and Kamaljeet bounced back in style after disappointing outings in their respective individual events.
Suruchi-Kamaljeet smash Asian record
Not only did Suruchi and Kamaljeet win gold, but they also broke an Asian record.
The Indian shooting duo scored 484.6 points, smashing the Asian Record previously set by Uzbekistan, which had scored 481.3 at the Asian Shooting Championships earlier in the year in New Delhi.
The duo, however, fell four points short of the world record.
Earlier, India’s first gold came when the women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs to seal the top podium finish in the continental showpiece. Suruchi and Kamaljeet’s record-breaking performance has officially made it two.
