The gold medal at the men’s cricket final in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya will be jointly awarded to both finalists if rain prevents the summit clash from producing a result on Saturday.

At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the men’s cricket final between India and Afghanistan was washed out, and the Indian side was awarded gold due to being the higher-ranked team in T20I rankings. Afghanistan had to settle for a silver.

Medals to be shared if final is washed out

According to the Indian Express, the Asian Games organising committee confirmed that if rain disrupted the final, both finalists would be awarded gold. Similarly, if the third-place match is cancelled, both teams competing for the third-place finish will be awarded the medal.

Additionally, it was also revealed that there would be no reserve days for the men’s cricket final.

“There are no reserve days scheduled for the men’s cricket final. If the final is cancelled, both finalist teams will be awarded gold medals. If the bronze medal match is cancelled, both teams competing for third place will be awarded bronze medals,” the organising committee said in a statement, as per the report.

At the 2026 Asian Games, India was supposed to be in action against Afghanistan in the quarterfinal, but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. India advanced to the semifinal due to its higher seeding in T20I rankings.
