Tilak Varmaโ€™s nonchalant play costs him his wicket in unprecedented run-out during 3rd T20I

India batter Tilak Varma endured a bizarre run-out during the third T20I against the West Indies after mistakenly assuming a boundary had been scored.

Indian cricketer Tilak Varma was subject to a situation that is going viral for all the wrong reasons. The middle-order batter lost his wicket in an unprecedented fashion, leaving many stunned.

The incident happened during the third India vs West Indies T20 International clash in Indore on Sunday, when Axar Patel struck a ball that raced towards the boundary. Tilak, believing it to be a four, was casually strolling in the middle of the pitch, but bowler Gudakesh Motie dismissed him via run-out.

In the 17th over, Axar struck the ball towards deep mid-wicket, and it went towards the boundary. But a timely save from a West Indies fielder saved them from conceding crucial runs. Axar and Tilak, however, were unaware it wasn’t a boundary and were walking casually.

While Axar reached in safely, Tilak could not, as Motie dislodged the bails before he could enter the crease. After a thorough check on whether the ball had cleared the boundary or not, the third umpire favoured the bowling side, and Tilak had to walk back to the dressing room after scoring 28 off 16 deliveries.

The brain-fade moment cost India a key batter in the first innings. But the hosts recovered well, posting 223/10 on the scoreboard. The Men in Blue were cautious with their bowling approach, given that their opposition had chased down a record target in the second T20 international match in Ranchi.
