India’s preparations for the ODI series against New Zealand have been dealt a blow after pacer Prasidh Krishna was reportedly ruled out due to an incomplete recovery from a hamstring injury.
India encountered a fresh injury setback after it was reportedly confirmed that pace bowler Prasidh Krishna will not be part of the Men in Blue’s ODI setup during the New Zealand tour.
With the tour approaching soon, the Indian team management will scramble to find a suitable replacement for the Karnataka speedster, who has proved himself effective in the 50-over format.
Team India is touring New Zealand for an all-format series, with the T20 International series currently taking place. The one-day series will follow immediately afterwards, with star cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja set to be part of the squad.
Aquib Nabi expected to be called up
According to PTI, Prasidh is yet to fully recover from the hamstring injury he suffered during the home ODI series against the West Indies. The Indian pacer injured himself while in action during the 2nd ODI in Guwahati and could not complete his spell.
Notably, Prasidh was provisionally named in India’s squad for the New Zealand ODIs, but his availability was subject to fitness clearance.
The report added that in Prasidh’s absence, Jammu and Kashmir pacer Aquib Nabi could replace him in the squad. He is already in New Zealand, touring with the Indian T20 squad.
Key update on Prasidh’s fitness
BCCI sources have revealed that Prasidh is recovering well and is scheduled to undergo match simulations and fitness tests at the COE in Bengaluru on November 1 & 2. The team management and selectors believe it is more important for the pacer to be fully fit for the Test series rather than the ODIs.
Additionally, the management would not rush Prasidh into the ODI setup immediately.
“Prasidh is recovering well, and he has his match simulation and fitness test lined up at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on November 1 and 2.
“In any case, the team management as well as the national selection committee believes that Prasidh should be fully ready for the Tests, where he is required more than in ODIs.
“Even if he is deemed fit by the Sports Science team and heads off to Auckland, after a long flight, he won’t be rushed immediately into the ODI scheme of things,” a BCCI source said, according to the report.
The India-New Zealand ODI series will begin on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Eden Park, Auckland.
