Kumar Sangakkara alleges ‘discriminatory’ conduct by Ryanair staff at Dublin airport: ‘Unacceptable’

Sri Lankan cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara has alleged that Ryanair staff at Dublin Airport subjected him and his family to discriminatory and threatening behaviour.

Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara called out Irish low-cost airline Ryanair on Wednesday, accusing its staff members of discriminatory and threatening behaviour towards him and his family at Dublin Airport.

Sangakkara is recognised as one of the world’s greatest cricketers and is known for his leadership qualities and calm demeanour. But the 48-year-old expressed his frustration with the experience he and his family encountered in Dublin.

Sangakkara criticises Ryanair

Taking to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Sangakkara accused Ryanair’s gate personnel of treating his family inappropriately and displaying threatening behaviour. He said it was the first unpleasant experience he had encountered in Dublin, Ireland.

“Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel @Ryanair in Dublin ? I with my family just did and it was shocking. The tone of address and the mishandling of procedure and threatening behavior. Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin,” Sangakkara wrote on social media.

The former Sri Lanka cricketer, however, did not provide any further details about the incident or what led to the confrontation. But his post suggested he was unhappy with how his family was treated by the airline staff.

Sangakkara’s social media post quickly gained attention, with fans calling out Ryanair and calling for an investigation into the matter. British journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan also backed the legendary Sri Lankan and urged the Irish low-cost airline to deal with the matter ‘urgently and properly’.

“Rarely met a more decent, dignified man than Kumar. For him to say this, it must have been truly shameful behaviour. I hope you deal with this urgently & properly @Ryanair,” Piers wrote on ‘X’.

As Sangakkara continued to gain support on social media, Ryanair has yet to respond to the former cricketer’s claims.
