Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has thrown his weight behind young batting stars Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan, stating that the selectors are not doing justice to their talent by limiting them to T20Is.
Legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes the Indian team management is not doing justice to the talents of Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan by restricting their presence to only the T20 international format.
Abhishek, Vaibhav and Kishan have been some of India’s premier top-order talents with incredible attacking finesse and have helped the team win matches on several occasions. Abhishek and Kishan have been in the scheme for a while, but Vaibhav is still fresh, as he debuted on the England tour.
‘We are not doing justice to their talent’
Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of a launch event, Yuvraj urged the selectors to include Abhishek, Ishan and Vaibhav in the 50-over setup, saying their talents merit opportunities in the ODI format.
“I would love to see him (Abhishek) in the ODIs, to be honest, and I have said this before that if we are not picking guys like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 50-over cricket, then somewhere down the line we are not doing justice to their talent,” Yuvraj said.
Notably, Abhishek has been under Yuvraj’s mentorship for a long time, and the young opener has deep respect for the legendary Indian all-rounder.

While Yuvraj acknowledged the intense competition for spots in the Indian cricket team, he strongly believes young talents like Abhishek have done enough to warrant their selection. He also credited the opener’s success to his hard work.
“I understand we have some great players, and it is hard to make a spot for them. I think the way they (young batters) are performing, hopefully, they should be in the squad soon. Whatever he (Abhishek) has achieved is because of his hard work, and credit goes to him,” he added.
Abhishek and Vaibhav are expected to be in action for India in the fifth T20I match against New Zealand. Kishan, on the other hand, is doubtful after sustaining an injury. The IND vs NZ clash will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Hamilton’s Seddon Park.
