Amit Shah, JP Nadda slam Congress over โ€˜abuseโ€™ of PM Modiโ€™s mother

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah called upon Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to issue an apology. The demand for an apology stemmed from what they described as “abuses” directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother during a rally in Bihar.

In a video message shared on his official X account, JP Nadda expressed strong condemnation, stating, “The so-called โ€˜Vote Adhikar Yatraโ€™, where the joint platform of the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was used to abuse the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is highly condemnable and reprehensible.”ย

He further characterised the incident as a “disregard for Bihar’s culture” by “two princes” who, he claimed, had “crossed all limits of indecency”. Nadda explicitly called for immediate apologies from both Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Echoing these sentiments, Home Minister Amit Shah also took to X to voice his disapproval. He wrote, “The use of abusive language filled with expletives against PM Modi and his late mother from the Congress and RJD platform in Darbhanga, Bihar, is not only condemnable but also a stain on our democracy.”ย

Shah criticised the Congress party’s political conduct under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, asserting that it had “reached its lowest level”. He suggested that the motive behind the abuse was an inability to “tolerate how a poor mother’s son has been sitting in the Prime Minister’s chair for the past 11 years and is continuously taking the country forward under his leadership.”ย

According to Shah, this incident signalled that Congress had “returned to its old ways and character, through which it has always poisoned the country’s political culture.”

Amit Malviya, the in-charge of the BJPโ€™s National Information and Technology Department, also joined the criticism, lashing out at the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ leaders for their use of what he called “extremely indecent language”. He claimed that such a “depravity has never been seen before in politics” and that the yatra had “crossed all limits of insult, hatred, and vulgarity”.ย

Malviya also referred to past incidents, alleging that Tejashwi and Rahul had previously “humiliated the people of Bihar” by inviting leaders like MK Stalin and Revanth Reddy, who had reportedly insulted the state’s populace. He concluded by suggesting that the current act of “making people hurl abuses at the revered late mother of PM Modi” was a sign of their desperation.

In response to the incident, a BJP delegation officially filed a police complaint in Bihar. The complaint was related to the events in Darbhanga town, where supporters of the Mahagathbandhan were reportedly caught on camera using abusive language against Prime Minister Modi’s late mother on Wednesday.
