Asha Bhosle’s last rites with state honours in Mumbai today

The final farewell to the legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who was 92, is set to take place at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Monday afternoon, where she will be laid to rest with full state honours. The revered artist, who defined the sound of Bollywood for more than seventy years with her extraordinary vocal range and countless hits, passed away on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital, following multi-organ failure.ย

Following her demise, the mortal remains were moved to her home in Lower Parel. On Sunday evening, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the residence to pay his final respects and offer floral tributes. He was joined by the State Cultural Affairs Minister, Ashish Shelar, as well as several local legislators. Confirming the arrangements, Shelar said that the state funeral is scheduled for 4 pm on April 13.

Her son, Anand, informed the press that members of the public wishing to pay their respects could do so from 11 am today at Casa Grande, her residence in Lower Parel, before the procession moves to Shivaji Park for the final rites.

Affectionately known to millions as Ashatai, the singerโ€™s immense contribution to Indian culture was recognised during her lifetime with some of the countryโ€™s highest accolades, including the Padma Vibhushan and the Maharashtra Bhushan awards.
