The 30th edition of the BWF World Championships is all set to take place in August 2026, with India serving as hosts for the first time since 2009. The organisers have made every effort to make it a top-tier event by carrying out renovations and stepping up their readiness for the tournament with unique methods at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Arena in New Delhi.
Top badminton players from around the world will compete across five disciplines: Menโs singles, womenโs singles, menโs doubles, womenโs doubles, and mixed doubles. The prestige of becoming a world champion and crucial ranking points will be up for grabs.
Indian shuttlers in focus
The Indian contingent would be in focus, with Ayush Shetty facing one of the toughest tasks after being pitted against defending champion Shi Yu Qi of China in the first round of the men’s singles event. 2021 bronze medalist Lakshya Sen will face Collins Valentine Filimon of Austria, and a victory will help him reach the pre-quarters.
In the women’s singles event, former world champion PV Sindhu will kick off her campaign against World No. 141, Sophia Noble of Ireland.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, meanwhile, have received a first-round bye in the men’s doubles event and will now face the winner of the Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle vs Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsa-Nga match.
