Congress expels ex Jharkhand minister for 3 years

In a major political development in Jharkhand, the Congress party has expelled former minister Yogendra Sao for three years over his alleged controversial remarks against Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the ruling coalition government.

ย

According to an official press release issued by the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, the decision was taken by the partyโ€™s disciplinary committee to maintain organisational discipline. The action follows repeated instances of Sao making objectionable and indisciplined remarks against the current government through social media platforms.

ย

Senior party leaders stated that the committee had taken serious note of Saoโ€™s conduct, particularly his comments made during a recent Facebook Live session, where he allegedly made inappropriate statements against the government.

ย

The party observed that such public criticism was detrimental to its image, especially at a time when Congress is a key partner in the ruling alliance in the state. It further emphasised that such behaviour violates party norms and undermines collective responsibility.

ย

ย

Based on these grounds, the disciplinary committee decided to expel Yogendra Sao from the primary membership of the Congress party for a period of three years.

ย

Notably, the house of Sao made statements against Soren after his house was demolished on Thursday at Jordag village under Keredari block in Hazaribagh district, after a prolonged dispute between the State-run NTPC and the former minister over land acquisition and compensation.

ย

Sao, along with his wife Nirmala Devi, had been staging a sit-in protest at the site for several days, demanding a revision of the compensation amount offered for their land.

ย

Authorities carried out the demolition using three excavators in the presence of the Keredari Circle Officer and NTPC officials. According to officials, the compensation for the land had already been determined, and after Sao declined to accept it, the amount was deposited with the Tribunal Court as per procedure.
