Travelling between Delhi and the NCR could become much easier in the future, as the Delhi Master Plan 2047 proposes better connectivity between the national capital and key areas like Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Jewar Airport, and Jhajjar. As part of this, the plan proposes developing four strategic link corridors. These corridors will not only improve connectivity but also help reduce traffic congestion on Delhi’s major roads.
Four new link corridorsย
The four link corridors proposed in the Master Plan will be designed for high-speed connectivity. The relevant road agencies will build these corridors. The plan’s feasibility will be assessed, and work will be done in collaboration with the respective states. Where possible, priority will be given to developing these as mass transit systems.
First Corridor: NH-1 to Loni-Baghpat
The first strategic link will be the northern extension of Urban Extension Road-I (UER-I) from NH-1 to the Loni-Baghpat Expressway in Ghaziabad. This will provide an alternative route for vehicles travelling from Sonipat and Narela-Bawana to Ghaziabad. This is expected to reduce traffic congestion on NH-1 and GT Road in Delhi.
Second Corridor: Dwarka to Jewar Airport
The second major link will be created through the southern extension of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). It will start from NH-8, Dwarka, and extend to Jewar Airport via the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. This corridor will improve connectivity between Delhi and Noida International Airport. Passengers will have a new option to reach the airport.
Third and Fourth Corridors
The third strategic corridor is proposed from Dwarka Sector 21 to HUDA City Centre in Gurugram. This could help ease travel between Delhi and Gurugram. The fourth link will be built from Dwarka to AIIMS Jhajjar, strengthening connectivity between West Delhi and Jhajjar.
There will be less traffic on Delhi roads
These link corridors will significantly benefit Delhi’s currently congested roads by reducing vehicle traffic on major routes like the Ring Road, Signature Bridge, and Wazirabad Bridge.
Delhi Master Plan 2047
The Master Plan 2047 focuses not only on better infrastructure, but also on making Delhi a green and livable city. Plans include conserving and rejuvenating parks, lakes, and other water bodies. It also proposes biodiversity parks, improved floodplain planning, and developing walking and cycling tracks in buffer zones around drains.
