The wait for the second instalment of Aditya Dharโs high-octane franchise is almost over, as the trailer for โDhurandhar: The Revengeโ was officially unveiled today, Saturday, March 7. Following the colossal box-office success of the first film โ which raked in a staggering โน836 crore โ Ranveer Singh returns in a sequel that looks set to double down on the gritty, stylised violence that defined its predecessor.
ย
The trailer leans heavily into the tension left behind by the first part, opening with a provocative callback to a terroristโs taunts on a plane before shifting focus to the power vacuum in Lyari following the death of Akshaye Khannaโs character, Rahman Dakait. We will see Ranveerโs Hamza stepping into the fray with brutal efficiency, but the real intrigue lies in the glimpses of his past. The footage introduces us to Jaskirat Singh Rangi, a clean-shaven, angst-ridden youngster, tracing the transformation that forced him to adopt the identity of Hamza Ali Mazari to operate deep within Pakistan.
ย
The supporting cast appears equally formidable. Sanjay Dutt makes a characteristically quirky entrance as SP Chaudhary Aslam, cracking a joke before dispatching a goon, while Arjun Rampalโs Major Iqbal vows a violent end for Indian soldiers. R Madhavan, returning as Ajay Sanyal, provides the filmโs rhythmic mantra โ โHaunsla, Eendhan, Badlaโ (Courage, Fuel, Revenge) โ over shots of Ranveer navigating a landscape of debris. The trailer closes on a defiant note, with a cigarette-toting Hamza declaring that India will now decide Pakistanโs future.
ย
Produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the film arrives amidst a fair amount of chatter. While the first Dhurandhar was a certified blockbuster, it also drew fire for its blend of real-life events and ultra-nationalist fiction. โDhurandhar: The Revengeโ looks unlikely to shy away from that controversy when it hits cinemas on March 19, with paid previews starting a day earlier on March 18.
