Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin said the future of West Bengal and India depended significantly on women working in Anganwadi centres and as ASHA workers, citing their contribution to nurturing, educating, nourishing and guiding children.
Speaking at the Angan Milan Seva programme during his two-day visit to West Bengal, Nabin said women were helping shape the country’s future under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said discussions on women-led development had now been followed by concrete efforts to support women’s safety, dignity and self-respect.
Nabin referred to the construction of 12 crore toilets across the country, saying the initiative was connected with the dignity and self-respect of women. He also said the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme had gained strength nationwide as part of efforts to support and uplift girls.
The BJP president said the government was seeking meaningful improvements in the lives of Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHA workers. He told participants that their work placed them at the centre of efforts to build a better future for children in West Bengal and across India.
Nabin also praised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and spoke about the contribution of women to West Bengal’s development. He said the state had for a long time needed an environment that encouraged development and restored people’s trust.
He said Adhikari was working to provide confidence, trust and development in the state. Nabin added that the BJP had come to assure women that their support remained important for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that the party’s primary commitment was towards mothers and sisters.
Reiterating the importance of women in every person’s life, Nabin said women were shaping the nation’s future under the Prime Minister’s leadership. He maintained that the focus had moved beyond discussions about women’s development and empowerment to measures aimed at protecting their safety and upholding their dignity.
Call for stronger focus on youth and sports
Earlier on Monday, Nabin addressed the Yuva Samvad Conclave in Kolkata, where he called for greater attention to youth policy and sports in West Bengal. He said the state’s established traditions in sports, art, literature and culture could help create renewed hope among young people.
Nabin said West Bengal could reclaim its sporting legacy in an atmosphere of trust and after moving away from fear. He urged the Chief Minister to give equal attention to youth policy and the sports sector, adding that young people needed a platform to counter negativity being spread through social media.
His remarks came on the second day of his visit to West Bengal, which included organisational engagements and public interactions. The BJP had announced the visit for September 27 and September 28.
