HAL Share Price: The acquisition of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighters was given by a high-level meeting today, paving the way for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to produce the aircraft.

Shares of PSU defence company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) surged nearly 4 per cent on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a day after the government cleared a project for buying 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. The stock opened gap up with a gain of 3.31 per cent at Rs 4600.05 against the previous close of 4452.85ย on the BSE. The counter gained further amid a surge in trading volume and touched a high of Rs 4611.60, representing a 3.57 per cent gain from the closing price of the previous trading session.ย On the NSE, the stock started the trading session at Rs 4,600 and touched the intraday high and low of Rs 4,605 and Rs 4,522.10, respectively.ย 

The stock has gained after two consecutive days of decline. Technically, the stock trades higher than the 5-day and 200-day moving averages but lower than the 20-day, 50-day and 100-day moving averages.

According to BSE Analytics, the PSU stock has given a multibagger return of 304.12 per cent in three years and 139.17 per cent in two years. In five years, it has yielded a positive return of 653 per cent against the 113 per cent surge in the benchmark index. However, it has corrected 4.39 per cent in one year.ย 

What Is Behind This Surge

The shares of the defence company are in action as the government has cleared a project for buying 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. According to news agency ANI, the final approval for the acquisition of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighters was given by a high-level meeting today, paving the way for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to produce the aircraft, a significant boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.

For the uninitiated, this is the second order for the LCA Mark 1A fighter jets placed by the government. Earlier, it placed orders for 83 aircraft a few years ago for around Rs 48,000 crore.
