Guillermo del Toro, filmmaker, says heโd rather die than use Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Oscar-winning director of notable projects such as, โThe Shape of Waterโ, โCrimson Peakโ, and โPacific Rimโ among others, says itโs not the technology itself that he is wary of, but with โnatural stupidityโ.
With his latest work, โFrankensteinโ, an adaptation of the 1818 Mary Shelley classic of the same name, streaming on Netflix from November 7, the director compared those at the forefront of developing AI with the character of Victor Frankenstein.
โI did want it to have the arrogance of Victor (Frankenstein) be similar in some ways to the tech bros,โ he said of the character, adding, โHeโs kind of blind, creating something without considering the consequences and I think we have to take a pause and consider where weโre going.โ

His stance on AI and its use in his films, said the director, is that he is not and will never be interested in it.ย
โAI, particularly generative AI โ I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested…Iโm 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croakโฆ The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, โWhat is your stance on AI?โ And my answer was very short.ย I said, โIโd rather die,โโ he said in an interview.
โFrankensteinโ features Christoph Waltz and Ralph Ineson in pivotal roles, besides Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth in lead roles.
