Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their final league stage match in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Friday, but could not secure a top-two finish. SRH had put up 255/4 batting first and needed a win of 90 or more runs to go past RCB on the NRR and take the top-two spot. However, their 55-run win kept them in third spot as RCB kept their place and will now play in Qualifier 1 against the Gujarat Titans.ย
SRH knew they needed a big win to sneak past the defending champions and book their top-two spot. SRH batted first and posted a huge 255/4 after Abhishek Sharma (56), Ishan Kishan (79), Heinrich Klaasen (51) and Nitish Reddy (29) produced some stellar knocks. The RCB bowlers were put to the sword, and no one found an easy time out in the middle.
RCB needed to cross only 165 to keep their top spot, and they batted smartly to ensure they put the requisite runs on the board. Venkatesh Iyer’s fiery start, Devdutt Paddikal’s cameo, Rajat Patidar’s fifty and Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 41 took RCB well past that mark as they ended on 200/4, losing by 55 runs but ensuring the top spot.
While RCB, GT and SRH have locked in the top three places, the fight for the last remaining spot in the points table continues. Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals are all fighting for the last remaining place in the playoffs.
Updated points table after SRH’s win over RCB
SRH’s win over RCB took them to 18 points, but their inferior NRR of 0.524 kept them in third place. RCB lost the game but ended on 18 as well, tallying an NRR of 0.783. GT are placed second with 18 points and an NRR of 0.695.
Things are pretty tight below them as the Rajasthan Royals currently occupy the fourth place with 14 points and a game in hand. Punjab Kings are fifth with 13 points from 13 games, followed by KKR, who also have 13 points from the same number of matches.ย
Eliminated Chennai Super Kings are seventh with 12 points from 14 matches, while the just-alive Delhi Capitals have 12 points from 13 matches. MI and LSG are ninth and 10th with eight points each.
