A projectile is reported to have struck a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, killing one person. Details regarding the vessel and the extent of the damage remain limited. The alleged strikes have not yet been confirmed by either the United States or the United Kingdom.

Retaliation for โ€˜operation Epic Furyโ€™

The claimed attacks come as Iran continues its retaliation following what has been referred to as โ€œOperation Epic Fury,โ€ which reportedly resulted in the killing of Iranโ€™s Supreme Leader.

The maritime claims mark a significant escalation in tensions in one of the worldโ€™s most strategically important shipping routes, though official confirmation from Western authorities is still awaited.

India in touch with authorities

People familiar with the incident indicated that New Delhi is in touch with the relevant authorities. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday that India is deeply concerned about recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region.

โ€œWe urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians,โ€ it said.

โ€œDialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected,โ€ it added.
