IRGC-trained Iraqi arrested over assassination plot against Trump’s daughter Ivanka | World

New Delhi:

As tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate, a chilling alleged plot targeting US President Donald Trumpโ€™s daughter Ivanka Trump has surfaced in Washington. According to reports, an Iraqi national linked to Iranโ€™s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was allegedly planning to assassinate Ivanka Trump in retaliation for the 2020 killing of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.

The accused, identified as 32-year-old Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, was recently extradited to the United States after being arrested in Turkey on May 15. Investigators believe Al-Saadi viewed Soleimani as a mentor and sought revenge for his death in a US drone strike ordered during the presidency of Donald Trump.

Soleimani, who headed the IRGCโ€™s elite Quds Force, was killed near Baghdad airport in January 2020 in a strike that sharply increased tensions between Washington and Tehran. According to reports, Al-Saadi had allegedly vowed to target Ivanka Trump as a symbolic attack against the Trump family.

Blueprint of Florida residence recoveredย

The alleged threat reportedly became more serious after authorities recovered what was described as a blueprint of Ivanka Trumpโ€™s Florida residence during Al-Saadiโ€™s arrest. Investigators are also examining old social media posts allegedly linked to him. In one post from 2021, he reportedly shared a map showing the area where Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner own a luxury home in Florida.

The post allegedly included threatening language warning that American security agencies would not be able to protect the Trump family.

โ€˜Burn down the house of Trumpโ€™ย

Former Iraqi Embassy military official Entifadh Qanbar told The New York Post that Al-Saadi frequently spoke about taking revenge after Soleimaniโ€™s death. According to Qanbar, the suspect allegedly told associates that targeting Ivanka Trump would be a way to โ€œburn down the house of Trumpโ€ in retaliation for what he believed the United States had done to Iran.

The case has once again highlighted ongoing security concerns surrounding high-profile American political figures, especially amid renewed instability in the Middle East and increasing threats linked to extremist and militant networks.
