KCR suspends K Kavitha from BRS

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday suspended its Member of the Legislative Council, K Kavitha, with immediate effect.

The decision was, reportedly, made by her father, K Chandrashekar Rao, who is the former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS President, on the grounds of violating the policies and principles of the party with her recent statements and actions.

The move comes after weeks of escalating tension. Only a day before her suspension, she sparked a storm within BRS by openly blaming party colleagues for damaging KCRโ€™s image. She accused senior leader T Harish Rao and former MP Megha Krishna Reddy of attaching a โ€œcorruption tagโ€ to her father and alleged conspiracies by Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar to sideline her.

The conflict intensified on 22 August when Kavitha was abruptly removed as honorary president of the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) while she was overseas. She accused party insiders of plotting against her, calling her removal politically motivated.

She alleged that her ousting was a politically motivated move, conducted at the party office without her knowledge and in possible violation of labour laws. “A grudge was held against me for simply questioning the party’s internal functioning,” she said, placing the blame directly on conspirators within the organisation.

Kavitha noted that a leaked letter she had written to her father after the BRS’s silver jubilee meeting was a trigger for the hostility she faced. In the letter, she called for accountability and urged the party to identify those leaking internal communications.

“I demanded that those who leaked my letter and conspired against me be exposed,” she said, reiterating that her removal was driven by political motives rather than procedural correctness.
