โ€˜My saris and I have conversationsโ€™: Malvika Singh

Malvika Singhโ€™sย Saris of Memoryย is, as she calls it, a โ€œfragments of my lifeโ€ memoir โ€” a compilation of her involvement with textiles and the stories connected with them.Born in 1949 in Bombay, and belonging to a generation that saw the many stages of India post independence, the cultural doyenne was at the curbside of events taking place across the country. โ€œMy saris and I have conversations, recalling encounters, sometimes secrets, about people and places, travel and exploration, reliving happy and sometimes painful events that have peppered my life across a span of over 70 years,โ€ she says, reminiscing about Chowpatty…

An immersive experience at tea estates and strawberry farms in Coonoor

Tea plantations | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement A mighty gaur amidst lush green tea gardens and misty hills in the backdrop. This picture postcard frame brings our Jeep to a screeching halt. I take my phone out and click away as the gaur stops and stares before nibbling at the tea leaves. I am thrilled with my encounter with a robust gaur during my Monkey Trails outing, an immersive experience at tea gardens in Hulical, near Coonoor. As we begin the 30-minute drive from Coonoor snaking through tea plantations, beautiful vistas of the Nilgiris landscape unfolds at every corner shrouded…

Chennai | With paintings and films on artists, Gita Hudson explores abstraction

A view of the show at Lalit Kala Akademi | Photo Credit: special arrangement Today, the Lalit Kala Akademi gallery is red. Many gradient shades of the colour hang heavy on the 90-odd canvases that fill the space: crimsons and reds that are sometimes sharply broken by a deviant, rogue black or grey. But they inevitably find their way back to the reds again, much like artist Gita Hudson herself, whose penchant for the colour is nothing new .ย Titled Transitโ€ฆFrom the Studio, the show is a mix of her body of work across mediums over the last two years. All you need to know about the new Kia Syros

All you need to know about the new Kia Syros

From the moment you set eyes on it, the Kia Syros makes a statement. Its upright, tall-boy stance, combined with a 2550mm wheelbase, gives it a commanding presence that makes it appear larger than its 3995mm length suggests. Clever interplay of surfaces on the sheet metal creates a unique character. The polarising โ€˜love it or hate itโ€™ design is anchored by Kiaโ€™s digital Tiger Nose grille, Star Map LED DRLs, and Star Map tail lamps, all of which add a futuristic touch. The additional design elements such as the shark fin antenna, roof-mounted spoiler, and 17-inch alloy wheels seem to…

How this man from Coimbatore is breathing life into vintage cars

How this man from Coimbatore is breathing life into vintage cars

On a cloudy noon, we drive to Vintage Miles, tucked inside a sprawling coconut grove. The property feels like a step back in time, the modern world fading as we enter. Its founder Abhinandan Chandrasekharโ€™s house is nestled within this space, flanked by a garage filled with vintage cars in various stages of transformation. Some vehicles appear nearly complete, their chrome accents gleaming despite the overcast sky. Others lay bare, their intricate innards exposed like anatomical models. A few are stripped down to mere skeletons, waiting patiently for new life.Abhinandanโ€™s office is a treasure trove for vintage enthusiasts. The wooden…
