Lovlina Borgohain etched her name into Indian boxing history by clinching her maiden Asian Games gold medal in the women’s 75kg category at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Lovlina Borgohain made history after defeating China’s Ziyi Bao in the women’s 75kg category at the 2026 Asian Games at the Nishio Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya. The nervy victory over Bao has helped Lovlina clinch her maiden Asiad gold, making her only the second Indian woman after Mary Kom to do so.
At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Lovlina settled for a silver medal. But she converted the colour of her medal at this year’s continental showpiece with a clinical performance over her Chinese counterpart.
Lovlina dominates in women’s 75kg final
Lovlina delivered her finest effort against the reigning 2026 Asian Championships gold medallist Bao, clinching a 5-0 win to wrap up her Asian Games 2026 campaign with a gold.
Notably, Lovlina clinched a gold on her birthday, making the victory much more special.
The boxer’s historic victory helped India clinch a women’s boxing gold after 12 years. Mary Kom was the last gold medalist for the nation back in 2014.
The Indian pugilist adds an Asiad gold to her medal collection, which features an Olympic medal, a World Championship win, an Asiad silver and an Asian Championships title.
