Major PCB reshuffle imminent after humiliating England defeat; Aqib Javed, Wahab Riaz among those set to be let go

The Pakistan Cricket Board is bracing for a major shake‑up after its humiliating 0‑3 Test defeat to England, with chairperson Mohsin Naqvi expected to make tough calls, including the possible sacking of selection committee members.

Senior selector Aquib Javed has been a central figure in the recent controversy that took place during the England-Pakistan tour when her made radical changes in the Pakistan team and coaching unit midway through the England Test tour.

The former Test cricketer is said to be the root cause of the instability in Pakistan cricket and the kingpin behind frequent changes in captaincy and the coaching staff recently.

Wahab Riaz, the mentor with the national women’s team since last year, is another big name expected to be axed by the PCB.

Mohsin Naqvi to take ‘radical measures’

PCB supremo has finally sensed that extreme steps are needed to snap Pakistan cricket’s losing streak, and changes are expected to be imminent.

“Even Mohsin Naqvi has now realised that some radical measures are required to end the losing streak and abrupt happenings in Pakistan cricket. So these changes are now on the cards,” an internal source said to PTI.

Why is PCB pushing for change now? 

The PCB’s push for changes in the selection committee and other cricketing matters stemmed from white‑ball head coach Mike Hesson, who has expressed willingness to also take charge of the Test side.

It is understood that Hesson would accept the position only if he were provided a confirmed timeframe and assured of no interference in his decisions.

Reports added that Naqvi would soon host a ‘high-level meeting’ before final changes and decisions are made.

“Naqvi will soon hold a high-level meeting with his aides and also take the governing board members into confidence before final decisions are made on the changes,” the report added.

After losing to Pakistan 0-3, Pakistan’s next big challenge would be the Asian Games in the September-October window, followed by the all-format series against Sri Lanka, starting October 9, 2026.
